BARCELONA

BARCELONA

A couple weeks ago, I was finally able to visit the enchanting city of Barcelona! Barcelona was always a place that I have wanted to visit since my obsession with Disney Channel & the movie Cheetah Girls 2. It has forever been on my bucket list, so I am extremely happy I was able to visit when I did- (although, our eight hour train ride was pretty rough). Nevertheless, there is nothing that an infinite amount of Netflix can't fix!
I initially planned this specific weekend to visit Barcelona because my aunt, uncle, and cousins were going to be in Barcelona that same weekend! I was super stoked to finally be able to see them somewhere that wasn't in the United States. I couldn't wait to explore a whole new city together. We did a lot of walking, and of course, stopped at just about every bakery in the city to try every new thing we could find. I definitely gained like ten pounds on this trip (lol).

When we first arrived to Barcelona, it was approximately midnight, so we weren't able to do anything on Friday except check out the hostel we had chosen to stay at for the weekend! We stayed in the "Loft Hostel", that was only about a twenty minute walk from the famous Sagrada Familia. Although we had a game plan before we arrived to Barcelona, we also wanted to make sure that we lived in the moment and went where the city would lead us! We started our weekend early Saturday morning at the famous Park Guell. In advance, we were sure to buy our tickets to the park, but soon had come to find out that buying tickets was completely unnecessary, being that you can basically see the entire park without the $15 ticket. The only thing that you were able to see with the ticket were the stairs (that the Cheetah Girls danced on), but they were actually currently under construction, so we did not even bother entering. Nonetheless, the rest of the park was filled with so much history and incredible views. From the utmost top view in the park, you were even able to see the Barcelona coast and a 360 view of the city itself. It was definitely a sight to see!

We continued our day visiting the extraordinary Gothic Quarter in Barcelona which included the gigantic Barcelona Cathedral (as seen in my first picture). Although the outside was stunning, the inside was even more breathtaking. I'm sure everyone can appreciate this cathedral whether you are Catholic or not, because the architecture and ambiance basically speaks for itself. Although, being Catholic and being able to experience the inside of this cathedral was astounding beyond words. There were so many different sections of statues that were made out of pure gold and were each dedicated to a different Saint. It gave me such a sense of peace that I have not felt in a while!

When we were finished seeing everything the city of Barcelona had to offer, we quickly rushed back to our hostel to get ready for the Barcelona soccer game we had planned to attend before arriving! We were all really excited about this because every single one of us had never been able to experience any Europe soccer game up close and personal! It was so surreal. The entire stadium was packed and the fans were READY to go all in on supporting their team. The chants in the stadium were epic and resonated among all of the people in the stands. Although the chants and songs were all in Spanish, we quickly caught on and sang/ cheered along with everyone there. The stadium acquired the same type of food as stadiums back home, such as popcorn, hot dogs, and a lot of beer. It was definitely a different vibe, but held many similarities as any traditional soccer game would back in the U.S. There is no doubt in my mind that I will have to come back to watch another Barcelona soccer game sometime soon, especially because now I have a jersey to show for my love of Barca & Messi! If you have not been able to attend a soccer game in Spain, I 100% recommend it. Such a thrilling way to end such a great weekend in Barcelona.
